MAYOR GIULIANI AND ST. LOUIS MAYOR HARMON
WAGER ON METS - CARDINALS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and Mayor Clarence Harmon of St. Louis, Missouri, set wagering terms on the outcome of the National League Championship Playoff Series between the New York Mets and the St. Louis Cardinals, which begins tonight at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

If the Mets win, Mayor Harmon owes Mayor Giuliani two cases of Anheuser-Busch Specialty Beer, St. Louis-style pizza, a basket of Crown Candies, and frozen custard from Ted Drewes. Mayor Harmon also agrees to wear a Mets baseball cap in public. Should the Cardinals win, Mayor Giuliani will send Mayor Harmon a dozen Nathan's hotdogs, a pizza from Goodfellas Pizza, a Junior's cheesecake, and a case of Brooklyn Lager. Mayor Giuliani also agrees to wear a Cardinals baseball cap in public.

"New Yorkers are getting set for the first subway series in New York City in more than 40 years," said Mayor Giuliani. "For the second year in a row the Amazin' Mets are playing in the National League Championship Series, with a chance to play their cross-town rivals, the Bronx Bombers. After beating the Giants, I'm looking forward to dining on my San Francisco treats, thanks to Mayor Brown; and tonight, as the Mets get set to battle it out with the Cardinals, I reiterate the 1973 Mets rally cry, 'Ya gotta believe.'"
