MAYOR GIULIANI AND MAYOR BROWN
WAGER ON METS -- GIANTS PLAYOFF SERIES

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and Mayor Willie L. Brown, Jr., of San Francisco, California, set wagering terms on the outcome of the National League Divisional Playoff Series between the New York Mets and the San Francisco Giants, which begins tonight at Pacific Bell Park in San Francisco.

If the Mets win, Mayor Brown owes Mayor Giuliani an assortment of San Francisco food items including a selection of California wines, sourdough French bread, and Gallo salami, and he will take Mayor Giuliani out to lunch or dinner the next time Mayor Giuliani is in San Francisco. Mayor Brown also agrees to wear a Mets baseball cap in public. Should the Giants win, Mayor Giuliani will send Mayor Brown a cheesecake from Junior's, a case of Brooklyn Lager, and a dozen Nathan's Coney Island hotdogs. In addition, he will take Mayor Brown out to dinner the next time Mayor Brown is in New York City. Mayor Giuliani also agrees to wear a Giants baseball cap in public.

"For the second year in a row the Mets have made it to the playoffs and I believe this year we will see the City's first subway series in more than 40 years," said Mayor Giuliani. "Last year we saw the Amazin' Mets go farther then anyone ever expected, and this year I expect them to go all the way. With the Yankees and Mets competing against two teams in California's Bay Area -- teams from cities whose Mayors have the same last name -- I'm looking forward to collecting winnings from both Mayors Brown."
