Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today proclaimed "Bronx Dominican Week" in New York City and acknowledged the many contributions made by Dominicans to the City of New York. Bronx Dominican Day Parade President Felipe Febles was presented with a Proclamation during a ceremony at City Hall.
Joining the Mayor were the Assistant Director of the Bronx Dominican Day Parade Rosa Ayala, Deputy Commissioner of NYPD Community Affairs Yolanda Jimenez, and other distinguished members of the Dominican Community.
"I am pleased to honor the eleventh annual Bronx Dominican Parade organizers as they pay tribute to their cultural heritage and promote the advancement and unity of Dominicans in New York City," Mayor Giuliani said. "As New York City's Dominican community moves into the new millenium and celebrates its achievements, the entire City should recognize the contributions that Dominican men and women have made to the cultural fabric of the great City of New York," Mayor Giuliani said.
The parade celebrates the 156th anniversary of the independence of the Dominican Republic and also honors Juan Pablo Duarte, a patriot and hero who led the movement for independence with the patriotic slogan "Dios, Tierra y Libertad" (God, Country and Liberty).
The eleventh annual Bronx Dominican Parade will be held on Sunday, July 16th, 2000 along the Grand Concourse in the Bronx.
