MAYOR GIULIANI SIGNS BILL THAT NAMES
BROOKLYN STREET AFTER RAUL VASQUEZ, JR.

-Remarks By Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani At Public Hearing On Local Laws-

The next bill before me, Introductory Number 726, sponsored by Council Members Rodriquez and Malave-Dilan, would add the name Raul Vasquez, Jr. Place on Union Street, between 3rd Avenue and 4th Avenue in Brooklyn.

Raul Vasquez, Jr. was born on November 6, 1974 in Brooklyn. He graduated from South Brooklyn High School and went on to become a plumbing technician.

He spent most of his life on Union Street, working to improve the community and inspiring the young people of the neighborhood to better themselves and to get involved in sports activities.

Unfortunately, he lost his life on the very street that he loved when he was hit by a stray bullet on July 31, 1995.

Therefore, in view of his love for his community, it is fitting that Union Street between 3rd Avenue and 4th Avenue, be named Raul Vasquez, Jr. Place.

For the reasons previously stated, I will now sign the bill.
