MAYOR GIULIANI SIGNS BILL THAT NAMES BROOKLYN STREET
AFTER BAY RIDGE AMBULANCE VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION

-Remarks By Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani At Public Hearing On Local Laws-

The next bill before me, Introductory Number 608, sponsored by Council Members Golden and Abel, would add the name BRAVO Boulevard on Seventh Avenue between 62nd Street and 92nd Street, in Brooklyn.

The Bay Ridge Ambulance Volunteer Organization (BRAVO) was established in 1974 to meet the community's growing need for more accessible ambulance service. The volunteers responded to their first call on July 4, 1974.

BRAVO responds to an average of 300 calls for help each month. BRAVO's more than 200 members volunteer their time as dispatchers, ambulance attendants and administrators, without any compensation. In its 25 years of operation, BRAVO has responded to more than 125,000 calls.

Therefore, based on the tremendous service this organization has provided to the Brooklyn community, it is fitting that Seventh Avenue between 62nd and 92nd Streets, be named BRAVO Boulevard.

For the reasons previously stated, I will now sign the bill.
