Proclaims JVC Jazz Festival Days In New York City

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani hosted a reception at Gracie Mansion to celebrate the 28h Annual JVC Jazz Festival. Sponsored for the past 17 years by JVC Americas Corporations - an international manufacturer of audio and video equipment - this year's Festival will include approximately 450 artists performing at more than 34 venues across New York City, including three free shows in Bryant Park on June 21, 22 and 23. To honor this festival, the Mayor proclaimed the month of June, JVC Jazz Festival Days in New York City.

Joining the Mayor were Deputy Mayor Rudy Washington; Katsuhiko Hattori, President and Chief Executive Officer of JVC Company of America; Akira Ochida, President of JVC Americas Corporation, and Takeo Shuzui, President of Victor Company of Japan. The ceremony also featured the tango team of Carolina Zokalski and Diego Di Salco, and the Joey Calderazzo Trio performing a sampling of their show at Carnegie Hall on June 17.

Mayor Giuliani said, "The recently unveiled plans for Jazz at Lincoln Center's new home in Columbus Circle, Frederick P. Rose Hall, will make New York City home to the world's first performing arts center designed specifically for jazz. Through this new center, and myriad clubs and shows featuring some of the world's greatest jazz musicians, New York City continues to be at the center of the jazz music world."

"For almost two decades, JVC Corporation has brought live jazz to millions of audiences, bringing this important art form to people around the world. I want to thank the organizers for their hard work and commend JVC Corporation for sponsoring this festival. I am pleased to mark this occasion by proclaiming the month of June as JVC Jazz Festival Days in New York City," the Mayor continued.

JVC Jazz Festival in New York City is expected to reach 500,000 people.
