MAYOR GIULIANI ANNOUNCES FUND FOR FAMILIES OF WENDY'S TRAGEDY

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and representatives from Wendy's today announced the creation of the Wendy's Employees Relief Fund to help to the families of the victims of the Wendy's tragedy. The Mayor was joined by Ed Choe, Wendy's Senior Vice President of Operations and Jim Lemoncelli, President of Wendy's New York Co-op, for the City Hall announcement.

"New York City has been in mourning since this tragedy took place," Mayor Giuliani said. "It is at times like this when New Yorkers show that they are amongst the most compassionate and loving people in the world and this situation is no different. Because so many people have asked what they can do to help the families of the seven victims, we established this fund, which will allow people to make donations and know that the money will go to the families directly and without delay."

Ed Choe, Wendy's Senior Vice President of Operations, said, "Wendy's wanted to find an appropriate way to express our sympathy, honor our friends and colleagues and provide assistance to their families."

On behalf of their employees, Wendy's representatives also expressed their personal gratitude to the Mayor's Office and the New York City Police Department for their outstanding work and ongoing support.

A single fund will be established and divided among the seven families to use as they see fit. To make a monetary contribution, checks can be made out to:

Wendy's Employees Relief Fund
Mayor's Community Assistance Unit (CAU)
51 Chambers Street, Room 630
New York, NY 10007

Individuals with further questions on how they can help are encouraged to call (212) 788-7410 or (212) 788-7418.

On Wednesday night, two men murdered five Wendy's employees and wounded two others during a robbery attempt at the Wendy's in Flushing, Queens. Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to call 1-800-577-TIPS. Wendy's and the City are offering $60,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime.
