MAYOR GIULIANI HONORS NEW YORK AREA DAYTIME EMMY
AWARD NOMINEES AT CITY HALL CEREMONY

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today congratulated more than 100 of the New York area television professionals who have been nominated for Daytime Emmy Awards. Among those honored at today's City Hall ceremony were Finola Hughes of "All My Children," and Hillary B. Smith and Timothy Gibbs of "One Life to Live."

Attending today's ceremony were Commissioner Patricia Reed Scott of the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting, and John Cannon, President of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

This year, more than 500 New York area directors, producers, performers, writers, editors, stylists, composers and technicians are nominated for Daytime Emmy Awards.

Mayor Giuliani said, "Today we honor the actors, writers, directors, producers, stylists, composers, and choreographers whose creativity, talent and dedication have earned them nominations for the National Daytime Emmy Awards. With television production revenues in New York City at record levels, we are proud to show our appreciation to those in the industry who call our great City home."

In recent years, New York City has experienced an unprecedented surge in television production. Television production shooting days totaled 8,112 in 1999, compared to 3,598 in 1993, an increase of 125 percent. Also, location revenues from television production totaled $1.3 billion in 1999, an increase of $43 million over 1998 levels.

The 27th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards at Radio City Music Hall will air on the ABC Television Network Friday, May 19.

Today's ceremony at City Hall was followed by a reception sponsored by the new restaurant Dylan, scheduled to open in Manhattan on May 8.
