MAYOR GIULIANI ANNOUNCES LUCIANO PAVAROTTI TO PERFORM
AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today announced that the world-famous tenor Luciano Pavarotti will perform at Madison Square Garden in the Fall. It will be the tenor's first concert at Madison Square Garden since 1986. Luciano Pavarotti joined the Mayor for the announcement in the City Hall Blue Room.

"Luciano Pavarotti is an opera legend, pure and simple," Mayor Giuliani said. "He has sang to audiences throughout the world, but New Yorkers share a special bond with him, through his legendary performances at Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Opera, and of course, Central Park. I am happy to welcome him to City Hall and look forward to another magnificent performance."

Luciano Pavarotti will perform at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, September 14. The concert will be the first of his United States tour, which celebrates his fortieth season. Mr. Pavarotti has a rich history of New York City performances, singing at Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Opera on many occasions. His performance on the Great Lawn in 1993 drew one of the largest crowds ever for a performance in Central Park.
