Stupp to proclaim today Older American's Day in New York City and to release a brochure entitled, "The Ultimate Retirement City," highlighting the advantages of retiring in New York City.

Deputy Mayor Lhota said, "On behalf of Mayor Giuliani, I am pleased to proclaim today Older Americans Day and to highlight New York's City's reputation as the ideal place to retire. More and more, older people are moving back to New York City for its superb medical facilities, user-friendly public transportation system and more than 335 senior centers offering nutritious meals and recreational activities for the senior community. Retiring in New York City is a very smart move."

Department for the Aging Commissioner Herbert W. Stupp said, "We are pleased to release this new brochure highlighting the myriad activities in New York City available to people over 60. There are countless advantages to retiring here, including the Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption, shielding income-eligible seniors from rent increases; reduced fare Metro Cards for easy transportation; and cost-free, specialized assistance in areas such as health insurance and legal matters. Our goal is to allow seniors to remain as independent and active as possible."

"The Ultimate Retirement City" highlights the City's unique neighborhoods; rich cultural life; many parks, squares and plazas; diverse restaurants; varieties of entertainment; and year-round festivals and parades. The brochure is being distributed through senior centers, NYC & Company, the Economic Development Corporation, the Department for the Aging and various other civic organizations.
