MAYOR GIULIANI ANNOUNCES FUND TO
HELP FAMILIES OF MURDERED LIVERY CAB DRIVERS

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani-joined by Taxi and Limousine Commissioner Diane McGrath McKechnie and Community Assistance Unit Commissioner Rosemarie O'Keefe-today announced the establishment of a fund to help the families of murdered livery cab drivers defray funeral costs and other expenses.

"The families of these hardworking people have suffered so much from the tragic death of their loved ones," Mayor Giuliani said. "The last thing they need is the additional hardship of paying for a funeral. And for some families, their lost loved one's income was the family's only means of support. Some people are literally facing eviction, on top of their grief. I have no doubt that the people of this City will come to the aid of their fellow New Yorkers, and help these innocent people through their crises."

The fund is being administered by the Mayor's Community Assistance Unit. Checks should be mailed to the Mayor's Community Assistance Unit, 51 Chambers Street, Room 630, New York, NY 10007. Checks should be made out to "Livery Relief Fund."
