CONSUMER AFFAIRS COMMISSIONER JULES POLONETSKY NAMED
CHIEF PRIVACY OFFICER OF DOUBLECLICK

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today announced that Consumer Affairs Commissioner Jules Polonetsky has been named Chief Privacy Officer of Doubleclick, a leading provider of Internet advertising for marketers and web publishers. Mr. Polonetsky has served as Commissioner for the Department of Consumer Affairs since January, 1998.

"Throughout his career, Commissioner Polonetsky has been a tremendous advocate for both consumer rights and sensible regulation of commercial activity," the Mayor said. "His activism has spared countless consumers from being victimized while creating a climate where honest businesses could flourish. On behalf of all New Yorkers, we wish him well in his new endeavor."

Commissioner Polonetsky said, "It has been an honor to work for Mayor Giuliani, ensuring that the Administration's quality of life campaign is extended to consumers and maintaining a level playing field for New York businesses. Safeguarding the needs of New York consumers has been my passion. While my position with Doubleclick brings new challenges, the mission remains the same. I know that in her new capacity as Commissioner of Consumer Affairs, Jane Hoffman and the strong team at the Department will continue to protect the interests of consumers throughout New York."

During his tenure, Commissioner Polonetsky worked to strengthen the City's teen anti-smoking law and promulgated new funeral regulations to protect consumers. Prior to joining the Giuliani administration, he served as a member of the New York State Legislature for three years and worked as a legislative aide to Congressman Charles Schumer.

As Chief Privacy Officer of Doubleclick, Polonetsky will work with government and advocacy groups to develop standards for on-line privacy protection. Doubleclick (www.doubleclick.net) provides global Internet advertising solutions for marketers and Web publishers and has global headquarters in New York City and maintains over 30 offices around the world.
