Presents Outstanding New Yorker Award to New York Yankee Great Yogi Berra
Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today received the 2000 Inspiration of Excellence Award from the New York Society of Association Executives (NYSAE). The award recognizes public leaders who have demonstrated the capacity to inspire and motivate others; exhibited a strong work ethic; and who possess the ability to unite various sectors in order to achieve common goals.
The Mayor accepted the award during the NYSAE's 22nd Annual We Love New
York Day awards luncheon, which salutes the diversity of New York and the
contributions of the NYSAE and the not-for-profit community, at the New York
Hilton this afternoon.
"It's a great honor to receive the Inspiration of Excellence Award,"
said Mayor Giuliani. "Our City's success over the past six years in reducing
crime, creating new jobs, cutting taxes, and reducing our welfare rolls has
brought a new sense of optimism and confidence to New Yorkers. This award reflects
my Administration's success in transforming the City, and changing the perception
of New York City from the Rotting Apple, back into the Capital of the World.
"It's also an honor for me, as the 1989 recipient of the Outstanding New Yorker Award, to present this year's Outstanding New Yorker Award to my boyhood hero and one of the most beloved athletes of our time, New York Yankee Great Yogi Berra."
Following his acceptance of the 2000 Inspiration of Excellence Award, the Mayor presented New York Yankee Great and Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Yogi Berra with the NYSAE's 2000 Outstanding New Yorker Award. This award recognizes prominent individuals outside the NYSAE whose contributions to New York and the country have benefited and affected millions of Americans.
"Mayor Giuliani is a long-time friend of the association and of the not-for-profit
community," said Louis J. Coletti, NYSAE Chairman of the Board and Chairman
and CEO of the Building Trades Employers Association. "This award recognizes
the guidance and leadership he gives to the City, the thousands of people who
live and work here, and the thousands of tourists and conventioneers who visit
New York each year."
Founded in 1919, the NYSAE's mission is to advance and serve the profession
of association and not-for-profit management. NYSAE is the "association
of associations" that are headquartered in New York State. Its more than
1,600 members are full-time paid chief executives and middle managers of trade
associations, professional societies, voluntary organizations and other not-for-profit
organizations.
