In 2006, Mayor Bloomberg established the Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO). Tasked with devising strategies to increase New Yorkers' financial independence, create economic opportunity, and reduce the number of people living in poverty in New York City, CEO has launched a number of innovative programs, including the Office of Financial Empowerment within the Department of Consumer Affairs. Under the Mayor's leadership, City agencies are working together to break the cycle of poverty.
