Engineering Controls
- Engineering Controls are physical controls employed to contain, stabilize, or monitor residual contamination, or to eliminate potential exposure pathways to contamination. Engineering Controls include, but are not limited to site covers such as clean soil or pavement, subsurface barriers, v apor barriers, fences, and other access controls. Engineering Controls are generally used in conjunction with Institutional Controls.

Institutional Controls
- Institutional Controls are non-physical controls that eliminate exposure to residual contamination at remediated sites. Examples include restriction on the use of groundwater and a requirement that redeveloped sites be limited to their intended use.
