The NYC Office of Environmental Remediation is pleased to offer the Brownfield WORKS! Program for 2011, in partnership with the NYC Human Resources Administration and five local environmental training partners.
Employers can receive up to six months of wage subsidy by providing training and work to qualified workers who have 40-hour HAZWOPER and other environmental certifications through STRIVE, St. Nick’s Alliance, Building Works, SoBRO, or Sustainable South Bronx. The subsidy reimburses you up to $12/hour plus 8.9-15% of fringe benefits. Enroll by spring to take full advantage of the six-month subsidy period.
All you need to do is give workers tasks that match his or her skills while providing appropriate supervision, and include 105 hours of training (on-the job or in class) within the subsidy period. The job can be specifically brownfields-related or in an associated environmental field that uses the worker’s skills – e.g. weatherization, solar panel installation, green construction.
The Program gives workers on-the-job experience and introduces employers to a new source of labor. Employers are vital to helping the community by hiring newly-skilled trainees who provide local labor for cleanup of brownfields and other contaminated sites.
