The NYC Brownfield Incentive Grant (BIG) Program offers four categories of grants. The first category consists of grants available for work at any site eligible for the NYC Voluntary Cleanup Program. Such sites are known as Qualifying Brownfield Properties. The second category includes larger grants for community-supported projects: affordable housing projects, community facilities, and projects supported by community brownfield planning organizations (collectively, Preferred Community Development Projects). The third category consists of bonus grants that increase the total grant award to Qualifying Brownfield Properties and Preferred Community Development Projects. The fourth category of grants consists of pre-development funds made available to non-profit community planners.
Owners and developers who seek NYC Brownfield Incentive Grants must ensure their development projects maintain required insurance for the activities for which they seek reimbursement. After identifying the type of BIG grant, refer to the Insurance Fact Sheet and Insurance Memo below to determine what type of insurance coverage is required.
