National Preparedness Month Kickoff Staten Island

Celebrate National Preparedness Month

On September 2, the New York City Citizen Corps Council and OEM kicked off National Preparedness Month by stationing emergency preparedness volunteers in all five boroughs to educate New Yorkers about preparing. Almost 200 volunteers talked to fellow New Yorkers about these three basic steps:

  1. Make a plan
  2. Get a kit
  3. Be informed

OEM Tip of the Week: Gather Supplies for Any Surprise

Gather Emergency SuppliesThis week during National Preparedness Month, OEM encourages New Yorkers to gather emergency supplies for their Go Bags and emergency supply kits. Both should have items like water, flashlights, and a first-aid kit, but Go Bags must be easy to carry and emergency supply kits can be larger and kept in a safe place in the home.

The American Red Cross in Greater New York is offering a 20% online discount on emergency supplies all month long. You can also try to win a fully-stocked Go Bag by taking OEM's Ready New Yorker of the Month quiz.
