On May 11, the New York City Citizen Corps Council hosted Surviving Help: Volunteering in a Healthy Way, the Council's fourth annual disaster volunteer conference. More than 250 New Yorkers, representing 10 disaster volunteer organizations, attended.

Approximately 20 non-profit and community organizations shared information and networked with conference attendees.

 
The 2010 Disaster Volunteer Conference was held at the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House in Lower Manhattan.
 
Virginia Mewborn, OEM's Assistant Commissioner for Training and Exercises, gave the keynote address.

 
OEM Commissioner Joe Bruno welcomed conference attendees and introduced the keynote speaker.

 
Gail Wolsk, from the NYC Health Department, Revered Will Ashley, from the Abundant Joy Community Church, and Arturo Guzman, from the American Red Cross in Greater New York, particiapted in the panel discussion.

 
John Berglund, from the Salvation Army, moderated a panel about how to volunteer in a healthy way.
