On January 27, 2009, Jill Samonte and Keisha Husbands led an emergency preparedness seminar for children at Public School 3, the Bedford Village School, in Brooklyn’s District 13. The outreach team presented at two assemblies, one for grades 1-3 and another for grades 4-5. More than 350 students attended.

The Ready New York for Kids program teaches emergency preparedness basics to NYC's children at assemblies and classroom presentations in the schools. The guides and support materials target two different age groups, kids (grades K-5) and teens (grades 6-12), and are available in up to nine languages.

The Ready New York for Kids program is the newest outreach component of OEM's Ready New York preparedness campaign. The pilot phase of the program, which lasts through April 2009, will target all 46 schools in District 13.
