OEM ANNOUNCES THE OPENING OF STORM SHELTERS
Due to potentially dangerous weather conditions forecast for the New York region, the New York City Office of Emergency Management is opening emergency storm shelters at 9 locations citywide. The facilities are located near areas most at risk for coastal flooding. Emergency shelters will provide basic accommodations including cots, food and water. Individuals going to shelters should bring their Go Bag with them. Information on what to put in your Go Bag is available by calling 311 or by going to www.NYC.gov and following the link to OEM’s website.
Shelters will open today at 10:00AM and will remain open for the duration of the storm. They will be staffed by employees from the NYC Department of Homeless Services and volunteers from the American Red Cross in Greater New York.
Storm shelters are being opened as a precaution. No evacuations have been ordered.
