New York City CERTs came out in full force to support those affected by the nearly two week long power outage in North West, Queens. They were called upon by NYC OEM to respond and did so in full force and without hesitation.
Nine teams from Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan assisted the City’s and Red Cross’s efforts by distributing ice, water and meals to the distressed residents put out by the utilities disruption. Teams also assisted local responders with traffic and crowd control and helped distribute information regarding compensation for spoiled food to those affected.
In total, over 60 CERT volunteers provided support almost every day of the two week emergency.
