CITY ENACTS CHANGES TO TRANSIT STRIKE CONTINGENCY PLAN
The Office of Emergency Management today announced changes to the roadway restrictions in place as a result of the ongoing transit strike.
Two Reserved Streets, Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue between 23rd and 96th Streets, will now be opened to traffic. Reserved Streets are those reserved for emergency vehicles, buses, commuter vans with passengers, motorcycles and paratransit from Monday to Friday, 5am to 8pm. In place, one lane on both Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue will be restricted for use by emergency vehicles.
The one Lower Manhattan Reserved Street — Church Street/Trinity Place south of Barclay Street — will also be opened to traffic with one lane restricted for emergency vehicles.
Emergency Streets, which are streets in Lower Manhattan reserved for emergency vehicles, will now only be in effect from 5am to 8pm.
These changes represent the City's effort to be responsive to the needs of businesses and commuters, while at the same time ensuring the protection of life and property.
