Ready New York Preparedness Fair - World Financial Center
On Wednesday, April 27, 2005 the New York City Office of Emergency Management hosted a Ready New York preparedness fair at the Winter Garden in the World Financial Center. Designed to bring the message of emergency preparedness to the business community, the event included representatives from OEM, the Police Department (NYPD), Fire Department (FDNY), American Red Cross and many other partner organizations.
The fair outlined basic emergency preparedness steps New Yorkers can take at home, work, and school, including how to develop a disaster plan, how to assemble a Go Bag and Emergency Supply Kit, how to get trained in First Aid and CPR and how to get involved through volunteering.
After a presentation on common hazards and how best to prepare for them, attendees had an opportunity to meet with preparedness experts from various City agencies and organizations to ask questions and get individual instruction on many subjects. OEM distributed Ready New York literature, the FDNY provided fire safety information and the NYPD offered information on counterterrorism initiatives.
