OEM COMMISSIONER JOHN T. ODERMATT AND CON EDISON URGE NEW YORKERS TO CONSERVE ENERGY AS POWER IS RESTORED IN NYC
Con Edison has restored electrical power to nearly half of its customers affected by the continued power outage. By 8:30 A.M. today, power had been returned to nearly 1.5 million of its 3.1 million customers in all of Staten Island and parts of the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and Westchester County.
In spite of today’s hot weather, Con Ed continues with its efforts to restore full power to the entire City. The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) urges residents who have electrical power to cut back on the use of non-essential appliances and devices, such as dishwashers, washing machines and vacuum cleaners. In addition, those currently without power should unplug all non-essential appliances, and should set all devices to the “off” position to prevent circuit overload This will prevent unnecessary load on the City’s electrical networks and will ensure a smooth restoration process.
