STATEMENT BY OEM COMMISSIONER JOHN T. ODERMATT ON POWER SITUATION IN MANHATTAN

Since yesterday’s fire at the Con Edison substation OEM and Con Edison are asking all customers in Lower Manhattan, especially those below 14th street west of Broadway and Battery Park City, to conserve electricity while the utility company affects long-term repairs.  

The City of New York and Con Edison are asking customers in these areas to limit their use of non-essential appliances and electronic equipment.

This will help ensure reliable power delivery while Con Edison completes repairs.

Customers may log on to Con Ed’s website, www.coned.com, for more information on the current situation and for tips on how to conserve energy.  They may also call 1-800-75-CON-ED.
