Myanmar Relief
Cash Donations Are Best for Disaster Relief

OEM urges New Yorkers who wish to help those affected by the cyclone in Myanmar or the earthquake in China to make monetary donations. A list of organizations collecting donations can be found at Network for Good and ReliefWeb.

Why make cash donations?

  • Cash donations help avoid the costly and time-consuming process of collecting, packing, transporting, storing, and distributing donated goods.
  • Cash donations allow relief agencies to make purchases that meet victims' precise needs.
  • Cash donations to recognized relief organizations are tax deductible.

OEM Tip of the Week

OEM Tip of the Week: Avoid Hide and Seek by Choosing a Place to Meet

Reuniting with family and friends may be difficult during an emergency if you haven't chosen a place to meet ahead of time. Identify two safe places to meet: one outside of your neighborhood in case an incident like a storm or building collapse prevents you from returning home, and one right outside your home in case you need to leave quickly due to an emergency like a fire or a gas leak.

Spotlight on Hurricanes

Spotlight on Hurricanes

June 1 marks the beginning of hurricane season for the United States. While New York City generally does not experience coastal storms before August, OEM urges New Yorkers to use the calm before the storm to prepare. This month, OEM puts a spotlight on hurricanes to educate the public so the city is ready to weather hurricane season.
