On Tuesday, February 23, Commissioner Bruno greeted 20 high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors at OEM headquarters to kick off a discussion about leadership and OEM’s role in City government. The students are participants in the New York City Citizen Corps Council’s Youth Leadership Program, a 10-session, semester-long course that provides teens with hands-on training in emergency management and aims to improve preparedness outreach to young adults.
The students represent 11 high schools from around the five boroughs. Most of the students speak a second language. In fact, 12 different languages are spoken by the group members. During the course of the Youth Leadership Program, the students will sharpen their leadership skills and host a series of preparedness events for their peers and members of the public. The first of these events will be held in late March. Check OEM’s events calendar for more information about upcoming Citizen Corps Council Youth Leadership Program events.
