Emergency Preparedness Strategies for People with Special Needs Symposium
The New York City Citizen Corps' Special Needs Symposium, Leveraging Community Partnerships in Emergency Planning and Response, was held on February 26, 2014. The symposium focused on how service providers can leverage partnerships, both within their agencies and communities to better meet the needs of their clients during an emergency. Panelists were invited to present at the symposium based on their experiences with implementing creative and innovative strategies that capitalized on partnerships and community networks in order to better serve their clients and constituents.

At the Emergency Preparedness Strategies for People with Special Needs Symposium, held on March 21, 2012 at Baruch College, the NYC Citizen Corps Council highlighted grassroots solutions to more effectively support consumers, and how people with disabilities, older adults, and others can support each other before, during, and after an emergency.

The NYC Citizen Corps Council and the Home Based Care Task Force hosted the Emergency Preparedness Strategies for People with Special Needs Symposium on September 21, 2010, bringing together more than 130 consumers, caregivers, and home care providers to address planning needs for people requiring a higher level of support during an emergency event.
