Continuity Conversations is a series of brief, informal conference calls on specific topics of concern to the private sector. NYC OEM invites subject-matter experts to the calls to deliver focused presentations, answer questions, and direct private sector participants to additional resources.

Summer Power Preparedness Webinar
In early July, OEM hosted a webinar with Con Edison to discuss the summer's power demand and how disruptions are handled. Con Edison works closely with OEM and other agencies to restore power quickly and assist those affected by power outages. On the webinar, Con Edison reviewed a heat readiness program that featured response plans, power reduction appeals, and voltage reductions.

Hurricane Preparedness Week Conference Call
NYC OEM recognized National Hurricane Preparedness Week on May 23-29 by hosting a conference call featuring a guest speaker from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Upton, New York. The National Weather Service discussed the upcoming hurricane season and the impact that a coastal storm could have on NYC.

Business Continuity Awareness Week Conference Call Series:
NYC OEM recognized Business Continuity Awareness Week, March 22 - 26, 2010, by hosting three informal conference calls with planners and experts from the agency.

  1. Starting Your Plan: Program Initiation and Management
    New York City's Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP) team discussed the challenges of initiating a business continuity program and techniques for securing executive support.

  2. Developing Your Plan: Hazard Assessment and Business Impact Analysis
    The authors of New York City's 2009 Hazard Mitigation Plan discussed the hazards facing the five boroughs and explained how businesses can use the Hazard Mitigation Plan as a resource.

  3. Exercising Your Plan: Resources and Challenges
    OEM's Training and Exercises Unit outlined methods for testing plans and discussed the resources available from NYC OEM.
