About OEM: Notify NYC

In December 2007, OEM and the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications launched a pilot program called Notify NYC to inform subscribers about emergency activity in four community districts in New York City.

On May 28, 2009, Notify NYC went citywide and began notifying people about emergency activity throughout all five boroughs. People anywhere can now register to receive messages simply by providing a valid New York City zip code.

Registration is free. Those who subscribe to the service can choose to receive messages by e-mail, text message, or phone. Each subscriber may choose up to five NYC zip codes about which to receive information.

Notify NYC messages are also available on Twitter at twitter.com/notifynyc. Forward the tweets to your mobile phone by texting @notifynyc to Twitter's short code: 40404
