About OEM: Notify NYC

In December 2007, OEM and the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) launched a pilot program called Notify NYC to inform subscribers about emergency activity in four community districts in New York City. Over 12,000 people registered and received nearly 100 messages in this initial pilot phase.

On May 28, 2009, after the City was able to test the technology in these four pilot areas, Notify NYC went citywide and reports on emergency activity throughout the five boroughs. People anywhere can now register to receive messages simply by providing one valid New York City zip code.

Registration is free. Those who subscribe to the service can choose to receive messages by e-mail, text message, or phone. Each subscriber may choose up to five NYC zip codes about which to receive information.
