The School Safety Training Unit prepares newly hired School Safety Agents to meet and exceed the standards set forth by New York State and pursuant to the New York State Criminal Procedural Law. Upon successful completion of the fourteen (14) week training program, School Safety Agents are designated as Unarmed Peace Officers.

The fourteen (14) week training program focuses on ensuring students attending New York City’s public schools are afforded a safe and secure learning environment. The curriculum includes Law, Behavior Science, Police Science, Physical Training and Tactics, CPR and New York City Police Department procedures and policies. Training also includes Department of Education procedures for screening and scanning students and visitors to Department of Education facilities
