The New York City Police Department today announced street closures and anticipated traffic delays for the weekend of August 4th & 5th, 2012. Drivers should expect delays in the following areas:

SPECIAL ADVISORY
 
LINCOLN TUNNEL HELIX REHABILITATION PROJECT BEGINS AUG 6th
 
The Port Authority of NY/NJ advises that as of Aug 6th, 2012 the e/b helix roadway (Rte 495) leading directly to the Lincoln Tunnel will be subject to full closure through late 2013.  These closures are necessary to facilitate repairing the 70+ year old structure to extend the roadway’s usability.  A detour through local New Jersey streets will be posted during the full closures according to the following schedule:
Weeknights - 2230 x 0500
Saturday – 0001 x 0800
Sunday – 0100 x 0900
Motorists should expect delays and seek alternate routes during these times.

Park Avenue South between East 17th Street and East 32nd Street
Park Avenue between East 32nd Street and East 72nd Street
(Including the viaduct between East 40th Street and East 46th Street)
72nd Street between Park Avenue and 5th Avenue
Rest Stops:
Centre Street between Duane Street and Worth Street
Cleveland Place between Kenmare Street and Spring Street
Kenmare Street between Lafayette Street and Cleveland Place
Astor Place between Broadway and 4th Avenue
East 24th Street between Madison Avenue and Lexington Avenue
East 25th Street between Madison Avenue and Lexington Avenue
East 40th Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue
East 51st Street between Madison Avenue and Lexington Avenue             
East 52nd Street between Madison Avenue and Lexington Avenue    
The above streets will be closed for this event
The following cross-town streets will remain open to allow vehicles to cross the route:
Chambers St, Worth St, Canal St, Broome St, E Houston St, E 8th St, 14th St, 23rd St, 34th St, 36th/ 37th St, 42nd St, 49th/50th St, 53rd/54th St, 57th St & 59th St.
