NEW YORK CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES STREET CLOSURES AND EXPECTED TRAFFIC DELAYS FOR JANUARY 28 & 29, 2012

The New York City Police Department today announced street closures and anticipated traffic delays for the weekend January 27th  & 28th,  2012.  Drivers should expect delays in the following areas:
The following events may have a significant impact on the flow of traffic in the areas indicated:
 
 
 
Thursday, January 19th through Monday, February 27th
 
MERCEDES BENZ FASHION WEEK-LOAD IN/OUT
Manhattan:  0700 x 2300   (January 19th – February 27th)
Locations:
West 65th Street on the North;
West 60th Street on the South;
Columbus Avenue/ 9th Avenue on the East;
Amsterdam Avenue on the West (All inclusive)
The above streets will be closed for this event
 
Saturday, January 28th 
 
Three Traffic Lanes Closed From Fingerboard Bridge Overpass to Verrazano-Narrows Brooklyn-bound Toll Plaza
Sat., Jan. 28th Between 0001 And 0700
 
Wide-load Trucks Will Be Barred Eastbound From 2300 To 0800
 
On Saturday, Jan. 28th between 0001 and 0700, three out of four lanes of traffic on the Staten Island Expressway will be closed from the Fingerboard Bridge overpass to the Verrazano-Narrows Brooklyn-bound toll plaza while a new traffic pattern is put in place.
While the work is done, wide-load vehicles traveling eastbound into Brooklyn will be barred from crossing the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and should seek an alternate route. This restriction will be in place beginning 2300 Friday, Jan. 27th through 0800, Saturday, Jan. 28th.
This work is weather dependent and in the event of rain or snow may be rescheduled to Sunday, Jan. 29th between 0001 0700. Motorists should expect delays and leave extra travel time.
 
Once the lanes are re-striped, traffic will be shifted to the right before the toll plaza and continue right past the work zone where the toll booth removal work will be done. Just past the toll booths motorists will be able to access both levels of the bridge. 
Electronic and fixed signs will be in place both before the toll plaza and along the Staten Island Expressway to make motorists aware of the new traffic pattern, which will remain in place while the toll booth removal and other rehabilitation work is being done.

Dispersal:
Forsyth Street between Hester and Delancey Streets; Broome Street between Forsyth and Eldridge Streets; Grand Street between Forsyth and Chrystie Streets
