NEW YORK CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES STREET CLOSURES AND EXPECTED TRAFFIC DELAYS FOR December 31st, 2011 & January 1st, 2012

The New York City Police Department today announced street closures and anticipated traffic delays for the weekend of December 31st, 2011 & January 1st, 2012.  Drivers should expect delays in the following areas:
 
The following events may have a significant impact on the flow of traffic in the areas indicated:
 
 
Saturday, December 31st
 
NEW YEAR’S EVE CELEBRATION
 
The public is also reminded that during the Times Square New Year’s Eve event, all backpacks, packages and large bags are PROHIBITED.  Pocketbooks will be inspected and alcohol is Prohibited. 
 
Manhattan:        1500 x 0300
 
On Saturday, December 31, 2011 from 1500 hrs until 0300 hrs on Sunday, January 1st, 2012 closures within the Times Square area will be as follows:
 
41st Street between 8th & 6th Avenues
58th Street between 8th & 6th Avenues
8th Avenue between 41st & 58th Streets
6th Avenue between 41st & 58th Streets (All inclusive)
 
Seventh Avenue and Broadway between 41st Street and 59th Streets, inclusive of all cross streets will begin to close at approximately 3pm, Saturday December 31, 2011.
 
 
The Times Square area will remain closed until approximately 3am, Sunday January 1st, 2012.
       
 All closures are at discretion of NYPD.
