Third Day of "Securing the Cities" Exercise Brings Armada of Agencies to Wateways

A boat with a mock "dirty bomb" on board, near the Verrazano Bridge, is detected by NYPD and Perth Amboy, New Jersey Police, who served as primary screeners at one of four chokepoints established Thursday, April 7 in the Hudson, Harlem and East Rivers and Kill Van Kull strait between Staten Island and New Jersey. As part of the multi-agency drill, a second NYPD craft and Naval militia vessel (pictured left) pulled the boat away, boarded it, investigated further with larger radiation detection devices, confirmed the source, secured it, and apprehended the "suspects."
