NEW YORK CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES STREET CLOSURES AND MEDIA PARKING DURING THE JULY FOURTH CELEBRATION

New York City Police Department today announced street closures during the Macy's Annual Fireworks Display over theHudson River. The event will take place on Sunday, July 4, 2010 beginning at about 9:20 p.m. and ending at 9:50 p.m. The Department reminds spectators that no large backpacks, lawn chairs, lawn blankets, coolers or alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the viewing area. All restricted items are subject to search and seizure.

Drivers are advised to use public transportation and avoid the following locations between 2 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Street Closures

  • Northbound Westside Highway from 23rd Street to 57th Street from 4:30 p.m. until approximately 1 a.m., July 5th, or until cleanup is complete.
  • Southbound Westside Highway from 42nd Street to 79th Street from 4:30 p.m. until approximately 1 a.m., July 5th, or until cleanup is complete.
  • Southbound Westside Highway from 42nd Street to 23rd street from 5:30 p.m. until approximately 1 a.m., July 5th, or until cleanup is complete.

Spectators may gain access to the Hudson River viewing area from the following locations:

Note: Access blocks will be closed as viewing areas fill up. Spectators will then be redirected to open access blocks as appropriate.

11th Avenue at:

24th Street
26th thru 30th Streets
33rd Street
34th Street
40th thru 44th Streets
47th thru 52nd Streets (excluding 48th Street - operational needs)
54th thru 57th Streets

Media Parking

Media parking for "Broadcast Vehicles Only" will be available on the roof level of the Pier 88 parking lot and accessible beginning at 3:30 p.m. Vehicles should enter via the Passenger Ship Terminal entrance at 55th Street and 12th Ave. for security screening. No broadcast vehicle may enter the Passenger Ship Terminal until directed to do so by a DCPI representative.

Note: The ramp of the Passenger Ship Terminal has a weight limit of 10,000 pounds per vehicle.
