The New York City Police Department Today Announced the Routes and Impacted Areas Downtown Resulting from the United for Peace and Justice March and Rally this Weekend

The New York City Police Department has issued parade and sound device permits for a United for Peace and Justice march and rally on Friday, April 3, 2009 and Saturday, April 4, 2009.

For the pre-march rally, participants should begin forming at 12 noon along the east side of Broadway from Pine Street to Morris Street.

The rally is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will take place on the east side of Broadway from Wall Street to Morris Street. A flatbed stage will be set up in the curb lane on the east side of Broadway just north of Pine Street.

After the pre-march rally, the march itself is scheduled to step off at 4 p.m. and head east on Pine Street to Water Street; north on Water Street where turns into Pearl Street to St. James Place; north and west on St. James Place to Worth Street; and west on Worth Street to Centre Street into Foley Square Park.

After the march, a second rally will occur in Foley Square Park beginning at 5:15 p.m. to 6:30.

Saturday, April 4, 2009

Formation for Saturday’s march will take place between 11 a.m. and Noon along Leonard Street, Franklin Street and White Street between Broadway and Lafayette Street. Overflow will go to Walker Street. The step-off will happen at Noon.

The march will head south on Broadway utilizing one lane of traffic from Leonard Street to Wall Street; east on Wall Street to Broad Street; south on Broad Street to Exchange Place; west on Exchange Place to Broadway; south on Broadway to Whitehall Street; south on Whitehall Street to Pearl Street; and west on Pearl Street into Battery Park.

Reminder: Signs may be carried on cardboard poles, but no wood or metal is permitted.
