THE NEW YORK CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES CLOSURES

FOR NEW YORK CITY MARATHON ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2008

The New York City Police Department today announced closures for the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 2. Heavy traffic is expected throughout the city all day. Mass transit is strongly recommended.

Truck traffic will be detoured off the westbound Brooklyn Queens Expressway at the Hamilton Avenue exit.

Parking is prohibited on both sides of 1^st Avenue from 59^th Street north to the Willis Avenue Bridge and on 5^th Avenue from 138^th Street to 89^th Street and on both sides of 59^th Street from 1^st Avenue to 2^nd Avenue. In addition, there is no parking on Central Park West from 59^th Street to 79^th Street.

Bridges will be closed at the following times:

• Verrazano Bridge – Upper level (both ways)                            11 p.m. to 3 p.m.

 Lower level (west to Staten Island)            7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 Lower level (Brooklyn-bound only)           7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Pulaski Bridge – (both ways)                                                     8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Queensboro Bridge – Upper level (both ways)                  Open all day to cars and buses, but closed to all trucks.

   Lower level (Manhattan-bound)               8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

   Lower level (Queens-bound)                    8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

• Willis Avenue Bridge – (both ways)                                         5 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
• Madison Avenue Bridge – (both ways)                                     8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

In addition to the closures on the Queensboro Bridge, the exit ramp to 60^th Street will also be closed.
