NEW YORK CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES STREET CLOSURES AND EXPECTED TRAFFIC DELAYS FOR SEPT. 20 & 21, 2008

The New York City Police Department today announced street closures and anticipated traffic delays for the weekend of September 20 and 21 , 2008. Drivers should expect delays in the following areas: U.N. General Assembly - Intermittent street closures, Sept. 20 – Oct 3, 2008. See separate traffic advisory.

Saturday, Sept. 20th 

 

METROPOLITAN NY TOWING, AUTO BODY AND SALVAGE ASSOCIATION ‘PARADE OF TOW TRUCKS’ TO ENTER THE GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS

Queens, Brooklyn:    0930 x 1100 (400 tow trucks expected)

Route of Event:  Start @ Shea Stadium “South Field” parking lot, located off Roosevelt Ave nue; Leave lot, make left on Roosevelt Ave; Make right to enter ramp towards Northern Blv ; Take Northern Blvd east to S/B Van Wyck Expwy; Van Wyck to W/B Belt Pkwy; Belt Pkwy to Flatbush Ave South exit towards Rockaway; South on Flatbush Avenue and make left turn at the traffic light by the Marine Parkway Bridge Toll Plaza into Floyd Bennett Field, Gateway National Park Property.

Tow Trucks will proceed to spell out the words “NEW YORK ” so as to be visible from the air.

Representatives from the “Guinness Book of World Records” will verify the number of Tow Trucks in the procession and that a new World Record for the Greatest Number of Tow Trucks in a procession has been made. (Previous World Record is approx. 84 trucks)

Formation:  61st, 62nd & 64th St. from Lexington to 5th Ave; 63rd St from 3rd to 5th Ave

Route:  North on 5th Ave nue, from 61st to 86th St reet

Dismissal:  Floats disperse on 87th & 88th St from Madison to 5th Ave.   Marchers disperse North on 5th Avenue from 90th to 96th St.

The above streets will be closed at the noted times

Route:  North on the e/s of Adam Clayton Powell Blvd from 111th to 142nd St; east on 142nd St to 5th Ave

Dismissal:  142nd St. from Lenox to 5th Ave, & Chisum Place from 141st to 142nd St.

The above streets will be closed for this event

 

MEXICAN DAY PARADE

Manhattan:    1100 x 1500 :    1100 x 1500

Formation:  41st Street, from Park to 5th Avenues

Route:  South on Madison Avenue, from 41st to 27th St.

Dismissal:  Floats will disperse on 27th St, from Madison to 5th Ave.   Marchers will disperse on 27th St from Park to Madison Avenues.
