The New York City Police Department today announced closures for the New York
City Marathon on Sunday, November 6. Heavy traffic is expected throughout the
city all day. Mass transit is strongly recommended.
At 10:07 a.m. on Sunday, 2 military Black Hawk airplanes will fly over the
starting line. Immediately following the flyover, there will be a canon salute.
Truck traffic will be detoured off the westbound Brooklyn Queens Expressway
at the Hamilton Avenue exit.
Parking is prohibited on both sides of 1st Avenue from 59th Street north to
the Willis Avenue Bridge and on 5th Avenue from 138th Street to 89th Street and
on both sides of 59th Street from 1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue. In addition, there
is no parking on Central Park West from 59th Street to 79th Street.
Bridges will be closed at the following times:
* Verrazano Bridge * Upper level (both ways) 12 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Lower level
(west to Staten Island) 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Lower level (Brooklyn-bound
only) 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
* Pulaski Bridge * (both ways) 9:30 a.m. to 2
p.m.
* Queensboro Bridge * Upper level (both ways) Open all day to cars and
buses, but closed to all trucks.
Lower level (Manhattan-bound) 9 a.m. to 3
p.m.
Lower level (Queens-bound) 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
* Willis Avenue Bridge *
(both ways) 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
* Madison Avenue Bridge * (both ways) 10 a.m.
to 4:15 p.m.
In addition to the closures on the Queensboro Bridge, the exit ramp to 60th
Street will also be closed.
