New York City Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly will present the Roosevelt
Awards to Deputy Inspector Thomas Cea, Detective Richard DeGaetano, Police
Officer Michael Milio and Police Officer Jennifer R. Whitney. The presentation
will take place this evening at the New York Yacht Club located at 37 West 44th
Street, Manhattan.
Each of the Award recipients exemplifies Theodore Roosevelt's own personal
history of overcoming physical ailments to succeed. These individuals could have
left the Department due to their serious illnesses, but they elected to
return.
The Police Commissioner's Roosevelt Awards are given each year to members of
the New York City Police Department who have overcome a disability or illness,
as Theodore Roosevelt triumphed over the physical impairments of his youth.
Theodore Roosevelt served as President of the Board of Commissioners of the New
York City Police Department.
