New York City Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly today announced street
closures and media parking areas during the Macy's 28th Annual Fireworks Display
over the East River. The event will take place on Sunday, July 4, beginning at
about 9:20 p.m. and ending at 9:50 p.m. Drivers are advised to use public
transportation and avoid the following locations between 2 p.m. and 2 a.m.
Commissioner Kelly said: "On behalf of the entire Department, I wish all New
Yorkers and visitors a safe and festive Fourth of July. Please use caution this
weekend and leave the fireworks displays to the professionals. I encourage
everyone to celebrate with responsibility and to absolutely avoid driving after
consuming alcohol."
The Department reminds spectators that no large backpacks, coolers or
alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the viewing area. All restricted items
are subject to search and seizure.

Also on Sunday, July 4, 2004, members of the United States Air Force will
salute our nation's birthday with a pre-dusk flyover. The salute will happen at
8 p.m. with military aircraft flying over the East River.
MEDIA PARKING
Each media outlets will be permitted to park ONE "BROADCAST VEHICLE ONLY"
along the service road of the FDR Drive by the Water Club parking area accessed
from East 23rd Street and the FDR Drive. Spots are
allotted on a first-come,
first-serve basis beginning at 8 a.m. Media support vehicles may park on any
side street west of First Avenue, EXCEPT for the following streets: 23rd, 25th,
34th, and 42nd.
Parking is prohibited in crosswalks, bus stops, and at fire
hydrants.
