Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly recommended today that groups interested
in demonstrating during the Republican National Convention this summer submit
applications to the Police Department by June 15th for permits for sound devises
or marches.
"We want to accommodate peaceful demonstrations, while making certain the
convention delegates can conduct their business," Commissioner Kelly said. "By
having all applications submitted by June 15, the Police Department will have
adequate time to incorporate such requests in our overall planning for the
convention."
A total of 17 organizations, ranging from anti-war to abortion rights groups,
have either formally applied for permits or have indicated that they intend to
do so.
Permit requests to use parklands are handled separately by the New York City
Parks Department.
Applications for march permits or sound device permits should be made with
the Office of the Chief of Department, room 1300, One Police Plaza, New York, NY
10038.
