To recognize the outstanding efforts of members of the New York City Police
Department, Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly will preside over the promotion
ceremony of over 60 uniformed officers and more than 25 civilians on Friday,
April 30, in the first-floor auditorium of One Police Plaza. The ceremony will
take place at 11 a.m.
The ceremony will recognize the promotion of Bruce Smolka and Alfred
Materasso to Assistant Chief and Brian Conroy and Michael Oveis to Deputy Chief.
Other discretionary promotions include two to Inspector, three to Deputy
Inspector, two to Lieutenant, Commander Detective Squad and two to Sergeant,
Supervisor Detective Squad. In addition, more than 10 officers will be promoted
to Detective 2nd Grade.
Additionally, more than 30 Police Officers and Detectives will be promoted to
Probationary Sergeant and two officers to Detective Investigator.
The ceremony will also recognize the promotion of several civilian members of
the Department to various positions.
