Community Affairs | Training Programs
Counter-Terrorism Awareness for Community Members

In response to the events of September 11th, 2001 Community Affairs, in collaboration with the Department’s Counter-Terrorism Bureau, created a counter-terrorism awareness workshop specially tailored for community members. These workshops are offered to civic, religious, and community-based organizations upon request. Since the trainings began nearly 15,000 community members have been trained.

Training for Police Officers

“Streetwise: Language, Culture and Police Work in New York City” is a training program for all new police officers who have graduated from the Police Academy. Streetwise helps new officers understand the important role of culture and its impact on police-community interaction. Basic language instruction helps officers improve their ability to communicate across cultures and better serve the community in which they work.
