I would like to go on a ride along with officers in their patrol car. How would I go about setting up an appointment with the NYPD?

The Ride-Along program was created in the 1970's to foster an understanding of police work and form a partnership with the community we serve. The following can participate: NYC residents (business owners, volunteer groups etc.), District Attorney's Office, college students and foreign members of the service.

In order to participate, you have to fill out the following forms which can be obtained at your local precinct or downloaded below. The forms are: The Ride-Along Application and General Release form.

Bring the completed form to your local precinct with two valid forms of identification. You will receive your appointment via telephone message and you must appear at your ride along location early or the ride along will be cancelled.

I would like someone from the Police Department to come and speak to a group of youths (parents, council, group) on the different aspects of policing. Who can I speak to and can it be done?

The NYPD does give lectures and forums about policing the many different communities of New York City. In order for us to accomodate a request, we only require that you give us a reasonable amount of time beforehand to give our officers time to prepare.

You can send a request via email to communityaffairs@nypd.org. Leave your name, contact information and details of your request. We will try our best to contact you as soon as possible.
