National Night Out

National Night Out is an annual summer event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watches in which precincts organize anti-crime rallies with the participation of local business and civic organizations. Various Police Department units present displays, and other City, State and Federal agencies also take part. National Night Out has proven to be an effective and enjoyable police/community partnership. It is held on the first Tuesday of August every year.

Harmony Day Picnics

Harmony Day Picnics are annual events of the Police Department's eight (8) Patrol Boroughs. The picnics promote positive police-youth relations, bringing together police and young people in a positive setting. Over 10,000 children who participate each year are able to view police units such as Mounted, Aviation, Emergency Services and K-9. Other city agencies, community groups and businesses participate.

City Harvest Annual Food Drive

The annual City Harvest Canned Food Drive is conducted in partnership with City Harvest. The drive begins the first week of December and concludes the first week of January. During this time you may drop off canned goods at any of the 76 Precincts or Housing Police Service Areas throughout the City.

New York Cares Coat Drive

The New York Cares Coat Drive is an annual holiday event conducted in partnership with New York Cares. The coat drive begins during the fourth week of November and concludes the first week of January. During this time you may drop off coats in good condition at any of the Department’s 76 precincts or Housing Police Service Areas. Last year nearly 20,000 coats were collected.

Toys for Tots

Each December, the Police Department and the United States Marine Corps join forces to conduct the annual Toys for Tots Drive. New toys are collected, wrapped and distributed to needy children throughout the City during the holiday season. The Police Department also organizes five Toys for Tots celebrations, one in each geographic borough. These events bring needy children to local precincts to receive a holiday toy.
