Charles S. Kammerdener

Chief of Special Operations Charles S. Kammerdener, was appointed to the New York City Housing Police Department in September 1973, and began his career on patrol in Brooklyn. He was promoted to Detective in July 1983; Sergeant in August 1983; Lieutenant in September 1986; Lieutenant Commander Detective Squad in May 1988; Captain in May 1989; Deputy Inspector in December 1990; Inspector in May 1992; Deputy Chief in December 1994; and Assistant Chief in March 1998.

Chief Kammerdener most recently served as Commanding Officer of the Special Operations Division and has also commanded Detective Borough Bronx, the Narcotics Division, PSA 2, the PSA 7 Detective Squad, and PSA 2 Safe Community. He has also served as the Housing Police Department's Chief of Detectives (from December 1994 to June 1995), as well as Executive Officer of the Housing Police Department's Detective Bureau. As Chief of Special Operations, he will continue to oversee the Emergency Service, Harbor, Aviation and Mounted Units, and their respective sub-units: Scuba Team, Canine Team and Emergency Medical Squad. Chief of Special Operations Kammerdener has attended Pace University, New York Institute of Technology, and State University of New York at Old Westbury. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1971.
