| The Training Bureau was established in June 2002. The Bureau and its sub-units are charged with providing all members of the service with the best training possible, thereby enhancing their ability to protect the lives, rights, property, and dignity of all New Yorkers and visitors to New York City. The Training Bureau is committed to the task of ensuring that all members of the Department benefit from training, as well as maximizing their professional and personal development and well-being. This training fosters a level of confidence and knowledge that allows the New York City Police Department to meet the daily challenges associated with an ever changing and complex environment. |
The Training Bureau oversees all formal Department training, whether delivered by members of one of the Training Bureau’s many sub-units or by any number of the NYPD’s Bureaus that also conduct training. The Training Bureau also serves as the primary advisor to the Police Commissioner and represents the Department regarding training matters. In addition to coordinating the Department’s various training programs, one of the most important functions of the Training Bureau is the development of curricula that reflect contemporary needs.
